Automatically copy Parent Item Column values to Sub-Item Columns in Monday.com

Learn how to automatically copy column values from parent items to new sub-items in  monday.com .
Using the  SubItem Automations  app, you can instantly copy column values—such as a Connect column, status, or date—from a parent item to a sub-item as soon as the subitem is created.
KEY INFO: This automation works for most column types, but cannot be used for read-only columns like mirror columns, formula columns, or the "last updated" column. Before creating the automation, make sure that the column type (e.g. Status, Date, Numbers, etc.) that you want to sync exists in both the parent item level and subitem level.

Setting up the Automation

1. Click Automate in the top right corner of your board.

2. Click Create at the top of the automation menu.

3. Search for Subitem Automations.
4. Select the Subitem - All automations app.

5. Locate the automation template for matching subitem columns to parent items, and click Use template.

6. When configuring the template, start by mapping the parent item first. Click the second column placeholder and select the parent item's target column (e.g., a Connect column).

7. Click the first column placeholder and choose the matching column type for the subitem.

8. Click Create Automation to save and apply the workflow.

Testing the Automation

To ensure everything is working correctly, test it with a sample item on your board.

9. Click the + icon in the parent item's designated column to connect an item or set a value.

10. Create a new sub-item beneath the parent item. The connection value will instantly copy over from the parent item to the new sub-item.
