In Monday.com , you can set up automations to connect two or more items/subitems from different boards. Using our app, you can also make the boards communicate with each other by syncing column values between them automatically. With our app, you never have to do the same thing twice in two different places ever again! — this is a board where your items/subitems are first created. You can also call this your "Onboarding board" or "Main board" or "Leads board". Ideally, you can also have an automation in this board to duplicate an item/subitem from this board to the target board. Here's an automation from the app that complements what we're going to set up in this tutorial and streamlines the whole process. or — this refers to one or more boards that you want to connect to your Source board. The column data will be synced from the Source board these Target boards every time the automation runs.
Two or more boards that you want to connect and sync. Determine which one is the source board and which are target boards.
A connect column in each board you wish to connect (see instructions below on how to properly create one).
Ideally, all your column types and column names in your boards must precisely match. (e.g. if you have a Status column named "Status 1" in the source board, you must have a Status column named "Status 1" in the target boards. Columns that don't have matching names won't be able to sync column values.)
You must have the app installed.
You must have available actions in order to run automations. You get 40 actions per month in the app's Free Limited plan. You can upgrade to a higher tier plan to get a higher action quota/limit. See here to view our pricing and plans.
- Go to your source board, and create a new "Connect boards column". Click on . Then choose the boards you want to connect to and make sure to click "Set as a two-way connection" before clicking .
- Since we ticked "Set as a two-way connection", Monday will automatically create new connect columns in the Target boards which are connected to the Source board. You don't have to create new connect columns in your Target boards. These new connect columns will be named "link to <your source board's name>"
- Set up any of the following automations in one of your boards that you wish to connect. These two automations are practically the same— just with different triggers. If you want to automatically connect your items/subitems upon creation, use the automation in the first screenshot and set it up in your target boards.
- — select where to apply this automation to items only or subitems only in the target board.

- — choose which board you want to connect to.
- — select the connect column you want to use to establish the connection. You'll only see one option in this dropdown if you only have one connect column in this board.
- — this refers to the value that our automation will use to match two or more items. For example, if you select "Name", items that have the same name will be connected. You can also use a Text column and connect two items that have the same Order ID, or Number, or SKU, or any unique data that you can use to match two items/subitems. But in most cases, our users base it on the items/subitems' NAME.
- — you'll be prompted to select the same type of data that you selected in the "This column" dropdown.
- — Select a Status column that you want to use as the automation trigger.
- — Select the status label you want to use. The items/subitems will only connect when the status changes to this label.
- — choose which board you want to connect to.
